HDPE piping systems can be joined with heat fusion welds. Heat fusion involves the heating of two HDPE surfaces then bringing them together to form a permanent, monolithic, leak-free system.
Unlike the fusion process developed for other plastics pipes, the fusion process for HDPE is proven and has been used by the natural gas industry for over 40 years. Approximately 95% of all gas distribution piping in the United States is polyethylene pipe joined by heat fusion.
Fusing HDPE pipe is not difficult and personnel can be trained in the process.

Compared with metal pipes, the energy consumption of steel is 316kj/m3, that of aluminum is 619kj/m3, and that of PVC is 70kj/m3, that is, the energy consumption of steel is 4.5 times that of PVC, and that of aluminum is 8.8 times that of PVC. The energy consumption of PVC electrical casing is only one third of that of metal pipe with the same diameter. At the same time, the inner wall of PVC electrical sleeve is smooth, no corrosion, high water transmission efficiency, for infusion can save about 20% of electricity.
PVC electrical casing has good mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance. They are lightweight, easy to install and require no maintenance. However, steel pipes used in public works are prone to corrosion and must be coated frequently. Maintenance costs are high. The replacement of metal pipes in general buildings and public works needs about 20 years, and the service life of PVC electrical casing with good processing effect can reach 50 years.
